Canon 640P Scanner – Error 0x10ff0800

Hi,
I have attempted to install a Canon 640P Flatbed scanner onto my PC and I’m getting a 0x10ff0800 error when I try to scan. Canon Knowledge Base recomended to change to operating mode in the BIOS to EPP mode but the PC blue screened with IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS so I changed the settings.
The Instructions talk about ECP DMA so I have now tried combinations of EPP/ECP(default setting in BIOS), EPP and ECP DMA1.7 and 1.9. I had a scanner connected to the same Parallel port prior to setting this one and made sure all the drivers were uninstalled prior to this installation.
