OK, I use XP and just to do something different I mounted a 30GB folder (no drive letter needed in windows explorer) and stored alot of information in it. Then, I upgraded to a new PC with a new XP install and used the original PC disk drive as a second disk. However, now using the new XP install I am unable to access the 30GB folder that I had mounted with the previous OS. XP gives me the following message when I try to access the folder now:
“F:\30GB Down refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.”
I then tried to use the original disk as my boot disk so I could use the original install to still access the mounted folder but the install blue screens on boot up and even rebuilding the OS from the windows install disk did not allow the old OS to boot up on the new computer.
If anyone has any idea how I can access this data please post.
I also have the exact same issue with some files I encrypted on my old PC, but forgot to unencrypt before moving to the new OS. I think I am screwed there also since I did not set a recovery agent and I am unable to boot into the original OS (original logon certificate is gone) due to blue screening.
