I have a dell xps 1330 running windows vista. I have an Intel Pro Wireless 3945 ABG network card.
I’m having trouble connecting to wifi hotspots. I can find unsecure networks with good signals but when I connect, the message “local access only” shows up above the connection icon in the bottom right corner. I’m not able to use the internet.
This only became a problem when I moved countries. I moved from Ireland to Israel for a few weeks. I have tried using the ethernet port but I get the same problem.
I set my IP settings to automatically detect the network settings.
I’ve disabled my windows firewall (would this stop me getting onto unsecure networks?)
It seems to me like it’s a problem between the two countries. Wifi worked fine back in Ireland. I’ve tried to connect to a variety of hotspots here. I can connect to most of them, but I can’t use the internet or other programs like soulseek or limewire.
If you could suggest some other settings for me to tinker with, I’d much appreciate it. Somebody suggested I should set up a new LAN connection differnet to the one I use at home. I’m embarrased to say I haven’t figured that out yet. Would this solve my problem?
Thanks in advance
