can’t connect to windows xp domain controller from windows 2000 servers

i have windows 2000 server machine and i want to connect to our company network, and the administrator told me that i have to install windows xp only so i can connect to the network.. but i need the windows server 2000 realy… please help me to overcome this problem and connect to the network (xp domain controller) from my windows 2000 client… thanks in advance
