Can’t logon anymore to my Laptop using domain

by josephboutros78 . Updated 18 years, 3 months ago

Dear all,

Direct to the problem:
I have one laptop with Windows XP Pro, that connects to the company’s server using a domain.
I went abroad and I wanted to connect to a workgroup.
I did the following:
– Right-clicked My Computer > Properties
– Computer Name tab
– Change… and selected the workgroup option instead of the domain option (taking the computer out of it’s domain)
– Restart the computer as I have been asked.

!!! I can not logon to my computer anymore !!!

I know, I did a stupid thing.

When I start my computer, the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen appears as usual, then the logon screen (but without the domain). Trying to put the username and password but a message saying that password or domain name incorrect.

Trying to search the web for a solution to my problem, and I found many users have similar problems but not exactly the same (or as stupid as mine). Or maybe because I’m not experienced enough to understand the proposed solution.

BTW, i saw somewhere about reseting the password using a bootdisk with “Offline NT Password & Registry Editor”, is that safe?

Can anyone help, or point me to a solution.
Your help is very appreciated.
