I have a Windows XP Pro system whth four hard drive partitions and a CD-ROM. The partitions used to be lettered as shown below.
Pri Master ? 1 Dynamic volume ? C:
Pri Slave ? 2 Dynamic volumes ? Z: and D:
Sec Master ? CD-ROM ? F:
Sec Slave ?1 Basic partition ? E:
One day, the BIOS reset itself for unexplained reasons. since then, the CD_ROM has taken the D: drive letter and the partition that was the D: is forced to F:. I can go into the drive manager and change them back, but, that only lasts until the system is rebooted. If I disable the CD, and set volume 2 on the Pri Slave drive to D:, it will hold that letter through many reboots. As soon as I enable the CD and reboot, it takes the D: again. I found nothing unusual about the current BIOS settings.
I played musical drives so it now is configured like this:
Pri Master ? 1 Dynamic volume ? C:
Pri Slave ? 1 Basic partition ? E:
Sec Master ? 2 Dynamic volumes ? Z: and F:
Sec Slave ? CD-ROM ? D:
I even tried two different CD drives with no luck. I reflashed the bios – no luck. Does anybody know how I can get back to my original drive letter assignments? I have most of my programs installed to the D: partition so I don’t want to just use that partition as F:. By the way, the motherboard is a ECS K7S5A with the latest bios.
