Can’t RDP from Vista Home Premium

I have a laptop with Vista Home Premium and can rdp to a Windows 2003 server when on the local network but can’t when I use the public IP address. Hardware firewall and router are fine as I can rdp from outside the network with an XP workstation. Is there a setting that I am missing?
