Can’t remove Spyware Protect 2009

I’ve been working on a HP Pavilion desktop with 1gb mem with win xp os. This system had several viruses. I ran AWG 8.0 antivirus and was able to remove the infected files. After this I noticed Spyware Protect 2009 was listed on my task bar warning me of threats to my pc.
I am using Explorer 5.0. Now when I try to get on the internet my home page will come up breifly and then proceed to a warning that the web page that I’m trying to access is a threat and that I should use this Spryware Protect 2009. Because of this I can’t get to any web page. I have gone to Add/Remove programs to get rid of Spryware Protect 2009 but it is not listed. Please give me some insight on how I can remove this program. Any help will be appreciated.
