Career Change

Hello,
i would like to know, what my chances are to change my current career into the field of a pc technician or related.
I don’t have any experience in a jobfiled related to pc etc. but i do built my pc’s myself and consider myself as a selfstarter.
But is it worth it to pursue a career in this field or is it already overpopulated.
What made me thinking is also, recently i meet again a old coworker and he got into sap. But he got the job because he knew somebody. Normaly i think i would not have a chance to get in.
I really appreciate any comments.
