I’m not familar with networking to a great extend, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I just moved to a new office. This new office has CAT5 cables already wired up inside the walls. I just bought a Dlink 100 mbps hub. I also bought some new “CAT5e” cables. Everything works fine when i connect the computers to the hub with the new cat5e cables. But when i connect the computers to the wall jacks using the Cat5e cable and then connect end of the wallcable(CAT5) to the hub Iget “Network cable unplugged”. Somehow CAT5 and CAT5e doesnt get along well. I know the wiring in the wall is ok, i got it checked. I even tried a crossover cable to connect to the wall jacks incase the outlets are crossed, that didnt work either. I’ll try to get an external CAT5 cable and try it again. (What is the difference between CAT5 and CAT5e anyways?) In the mean time I’ll appreciate any help or suggestions.
