CD/DVD Drive problems – potential blue screeon of death

I am hoping someone can help me with a problem I am currently having with my computer. Actually I am sure someone will be able to help.

I have recently been having problems with the blue screen of death issue causing my computer a few problems and thus not even allowing me to use my computer.

After reading various websites etc, I decided to reboot my computer using the windows XP CD, ran an autocheck and then FIXBOOT option. This allowed me to get back onto my computer. I am still having a little trouble with blue screen of death everynow and then but i am still able to use my computer ok.

the main subsequent problem which I am not sure if it is related,, is in respect of the CD/DVD drives. I have a seprate DVD drive and separate CD drive.

After the boot from the windows xp cd, i am having problems loading data from Cds in the Cd drive and DVDs in the DVD drive.

When i put a cd into the cd drive, the green light flashes and i can hear the cd spinning and a noise as if the cd is being read. But all of a sudden thsi stops and then nothing.

A few music cds do play when put in but this is through microsoft media player and when i go to my computer and double click the CD drive – no details can be found for the CD.

I have looked on device manager and both CD and DVD drives are working properly. I have uninstalled both and they ahve been found soon after but again not reading CDs.

I am not sure whether this has something to do with me booting from the windows xp cd or whether i did adjusted something in the BIOS menu when trying to sort out the blue screen of death problem. But i need someone’s help !!!

on a seperate note, when trying to put in a USB data stick into the computer, it asks me to format the data disk even though this works on other computers. when formatting the data disk, it stps at the end saying that it was not completed.
Not sure if this is related
