CD/DVDs NOT recognized as writable on 2 computers

by rstacy1 . Updated 17 years, 2 months ago

his driving me NUTS!

I have had a PC since 1981 and do hardware

and software consulting in my retired

years; BUT, I cannot solve my own problem!

It all started when I built a new computer

and loaded XP-Pro on both the new computer

and the old one (Dell Dimension 8100, a

clean install on a reformatted Hard Drive.

Computer is now my file server.)

Since then,I cannot get EITHER system to

recognize the TWO (2) CD/DVDs installed in

each system.

I have UNINSTALLED anything that writes to

a DVD/cd EXCEPT Windows Media Center.
I have removed ALL “Apple Related”

software.

I have tried changing Registry entries to

indicate that the drive can write; gotten

rid of the upper and lower filters, etc.,

etc., etc.

In fact, I have tried evry different fix I

can find on the Web and on all the Tech

sites I belong to (e.g., Tech Republic,

ExpertsXchange, etc.).

I have NO CLUE where to go from here!

HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP!

HELP! HELP!

Thanks in advance
Bob
