cd rom problems

just bought a secound hand sony laptop with sp1 so installed sp2 from a cd and then found out it’s got a fake copy of xp pro on it which i wont to delete. thats were my problems start..
1. the cd rom is seen in xp but not in the bios. so when i try to install a fresh legit copy of xp the laptop will not boot from it and when in xp i try to open the cd rom all i get a blank page even if the cd has files on it. so i checked the drivers and ther fine and up to date.
2. so knowing this i’m thinking xp has locked the cd rom or it’s broke but saying that i can eject the cd and it dose spin a bit when i put a cd in. ANY suggestions
