CDROM won’t recognize music CDs

by spadrine . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

I have been having problems getting the CDROM to recognize music CDs. System CDs such as Windows98SE install and my restoration CDs are recognized. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers for this, but no change. I did notice in the Device Mgr that there is a conflict with the standard floppy driver as well as primary and secondary IDE controllers. I cannot uninstall these, but wonder if this is why I’m having problems. I have in the past been able to play any CD, but within recent months can’t get it to work. The following is a general profile of my system taken from the Belarc Advisor:

Windows 98 SE (build 4.10.2222)
c: (on drive N) 6.84 GB 3.14 GB free
W98.SE.IGMP.SECURITY.UPD (Windows 98 Second Edition IGMP Security Update)
W98.TELNET (Windows 98 TELNET Update)
6.84 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
3.14 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space
400 megahertz AMD K6-2 w/3DNow!
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends, Inc. 0AAQM021 07/15/1995

Communications
56K Internet-Fax [Modem]
ADMtek AN983 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet Adapter

Other Devices
101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
Standard Serial Mouse
Standard Floppy Disk Controller
USB Root Hub

I have downloaded driversfrom vendor, Gateway, but still no change.

Thanks!
