Hi everyone. I’m in a bit of a tiz over this problem I have encountered. I’m pretty much an amateur hen it comes to the nitty gritty ins and outs of microsoft exchange.
When our exchange server was first setup, long before my time, the primary e-mail address domain was for example @domain1.co.uk
Since then, another company (company 2) has been setup that uses the same system but has an email domain of @domain2.com. To get this to work for people I add the additional SMTP address and make it the primary one. This seems to work ok.
A member of staff from company 1 left a few months ago, so I disabled their account in AD. Now they have been employed by company 2 this week, so I re-enabled the account in AD, added the additional SMTP address and made it the primary one. But there seemed to be a problem with it, as the account was suddenly unable to open Outlook.
As she is starting from scratch with the need to have rights to different parts of the system, I decided to bite the bullet and delete the old account in AD.
I created a new account, with the same AD username and exchange mailbox. I then added the additional smtp address and made it the default.
However, when I then log into a computer and create the outlook account. It all works fine, except it’s still using all the old information.
Do I have to remove everything from AD AND Exchange server? I don’t seem to be able to delete mailboxes in Exchange’s System Manager.
Is using the same username in AD as previous the issue? If so, is there a way I can clear the “cache” of the old account so that I can re-use it like a new one?
I hope I’ve made myself clear enough. I’m pretty new to all this.
Many Thanks
