Cisco 1750 Subinterface help

Hello,
I’m working on creating a subinterface for inter-vlan-trunking.
WHen I use the following command on FA0.1
nothing happens.

Router(config-subif)#encap dot1q 1
^
% Invalid input detected at ‘^’ marker.

please help.
