Cloning a Laptop Hard Drive Via PCMCIA

by ben . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

I have a Compaq Presario with a 6G drive that I would like to upgrade to a 30G drive. I purchased the drive, as well as an external case to mount the drive while I perform a clone of my original drive using Norton Ghost. The case connects to my laptop via PCMCIA slot. (I’m running Win XP)

When I boot using the Norton Ghost diskette, enter the program, and select disk to disk, it does not recognize my new drive. (I have already initialized, partitioned, and formatted the drive) The reason it does not recognize the drive is because the PCMCIA slot never powers up or initializes.

I am confident if I could get the PCMCIA drivers to load using the MS-DOS Norton Ghost diskette, I would have not problems. I’m not positive how to do that (I’ve tried a few things already to no avail). I’m a novice, and have already tapped several of my more knowledgable friends. Any help would be much appreciated! (I know it is possible as most laptop drive retailers sell data transfer kits that clone via the PCMCIA slot)
