I’m currently going to school and working taking either of these degree’s. I still have a year or so left before i really need to worry about which one to take (as many lower division courses are the same).
Im leaning towards CmpE at the moment as I think i want to get more heavily into network engineering and and communications (very possibly network security also). The CmpE degree as a bit of a crossbreed between CmpScience and EE seems like it fits this bill much better. Most colleges i look up show that it generally has a networking class or two, a couple classes that deal with electrical communication type stuff, plus whatever electives I choose to pursue. I also like the fact it deals with the hardware side a bit as that’s more interesting to me, and atleast taking those types of classes means all the calc, linear algebra, ect wasn’t an absolute waste of time lol.
So at this point I’m leaning pretty well on the side of the CmpE degree. My main question is how is the market for this field? Putting aside momentarily which degree I’d actually like better personally, how well do they compare? Does CmpE open any doors that would be more restricted for a CmpScience, and the other way around?
