Com Port Woes!!!

I am using an HP desktop and a symbol scanner for a Pharmacy application.

The scanner is a usb scanner that uses an emulated com port, com2.

This scanner works great on other PC models but I have some d530’s HP that keeps losing connection with the com port. This happens on every single model with this scanner installed. I have to shutdown the application and disconnect/reconnect the scanner and it works. Is there anyway I can tell what is eating up or disrupting my com port.
