I have four of the above computers that I need to restore and get ready to put back into use. I have use the Compaq Bootable Restore CD to restore the harddrive and have install Windows 95.
When I boot up Win95 for the first time the computer does not recognize the presence of the embedded NIC. I have download and installed several drivers but cannot get the NIC to work. I keep getting, in properties, “Device Failure: Try changing the driver for this device. If that doesn’t work, see your hardware documentation. [Code 2.]” I’ve run into this problem with two of the above computers. No lights are showing at the connection behind the computer.
I have installed a 3Com 905-TX network card. Loaded drivers and still get the same message. The lights are on at the NIC.
Any suggestions.
