Compaq Presario 900 Video Problem

The laptop has an intermittant video problem.
After it is on for a short time, the video seems to short and crashes the system. When I try to restart, the video shows repeats of the text messages on the screen and the system will not boot beyond the CMOS startup. Sometimes after the system is left alone for a few days, it will boot normally and run for a short time. The error message says to restore the video from the Restore CD, but I know that that is not the problem. Is there a replacement for the Video or LCD invertor or what? Thanks for any suggestions.
