Compaq Pressario 7469 Boot problems

Hello All,
I am doing some support for the above PC. When the PC boots up, it displays the Compaq startup screen and then goes to a black screen with the cursor flashing. I have tried clearing the BIOS, swapping out the memory, booting from a floppy. None of these seem to work. I can hear the hard drives spinning up, and when a floppy is used, it seems to read it for a few seconds then stops.

I tried the compaq support page and they told me to bring it in to a dealer. I would rather not go through the time and expense of sending it off to someone else to repair.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
