Compaq Recovery Disk/Optical Drive incompatibility

by pjsnyder7082 . Updated 17 years, 4 months ago

I have a Compaq SR5123WM that has a new hard drive. The old one crashed and is not revivable so I can’t access the D drive where the recovery info is.

I tried using the Recovery Disks that came with the computer, but I get an Error loading operating system message.

I contact technical support and have told me so far that the recovery disks must be defective so I ordered new ones. The optical drive must be defective so I installed Windows XP from an old machine that I no longer have.

I can open the disks on a different computer and can see files on the disk. So I’ve ascertained that the optical drive works on the Compaq and there are files on the disks, but they don’t want to work together.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is?

Pam
