I have
1 Wireless Linksys N router (192.168.10.1)
connected to
1 Windows 2003 Standar Server with the following roles installed (AD-DNS-DHCP-File Server.) (192.168.10.100)
I was trying to setup a RIS server but my DHCP isn’t working right. So all I want to figure out is how to get my DHCP server to work and give out IP address and still have internet access thought my LinkSys.
I have done the following and it’s not working:
#1 I have turned off DHCP on my N-Router, and setup DHCP on my server, given it a static Address and setup to forward to itself. (127.0.0.1) same with DNS info. I listed the gateway as the router (192.168.10.1)
At first it seems to work as, but it seems that when the lease runs out or if I reboot the server it stops working. When it starts up it won’t lock to the IP address I gave it, and gives it self some strange addess like 167.46.xx.xx.
#2 I then set my router to DHCP and reserve the 1 address for the server but no other PC can get on.
Now one thing I will note is the server is in it’s own Domain and no clients have joined it. I’m a little worried about joining clients if my server isn’t working yet. Would that be a problem as to why DHCP doesn’t work?
[I know I should know better, and know how to do this on my own. But this is one of those cases where you set it, and forget it, and now trying to do it again I can’t seem to figure it out again.]
