Configuring an IP Address

I just installed Windows XP and SP2 on an HP pavilion desktop, and upon running the New Connection Wizard, I found that my computer now cannot connect to the internet. I know that the problem is not my DSL connection, because several other computers are running on the same connection. How do I configure an IP address, or what should I do to configure the connection?
