Configuring NIS in Linux

1)I have configured NIS in linux succssfully.
after configuring the NIS client when I login from client machine, I am able to login but it does not give users’ home directory. what I can I do for it.

2)I want to restrict users’ from not being able to login from NIS client machine those who does not have their a/c in /etc/passwd file of that machine. What is meaning of +:::::: symbol in /etc/passwd file of NIS client machine.
