Configuring Sound Properties

I have just bought a CD-RW/DVD-Rom. I would like to enable it so that when i put a DVD in it sound will come out. I have a Creative Sound Blaster 1024 Live sound card and i attacehed one of my leads from the Cd Audio slot to the other cd rom Audio slot. I have noticed that i can attach a SDDIF connecter from my Soundcard to my CD-RW/DVD-Rom. How do i set up my sound configuration to play both cd and DVD (Audio andDigital) but not at the same time. I am using Windows XP Professional OS.
