connecting 3 computers

hello.I have a java project ,that requires me to have 2 clients and a server.I have one switch and 3 cables. please tell me how can i connect the 3 computers.The server in this case has just to be named as server,for the application to run.can u give me some advice on what settings need to be checked.im a newbie in networking.the 3 pc’s have windows xp professional edition.
