Connecting a monitor to a laptop

Hiya, I want to connect a IBM G54 monitor to an IBM 570 laptop. Now on the machine it says that it has detected new hardware but then there is no display on the monitor. When I connect the monitor to another laptop which is an IBM A20m, it works fine.

How do I get the display on the monitor from the 570 machine?
