I’ve yet to attempt this set up, however it will
be implemented in the near future and am trying
to eliminate any potential problems when it
comes time to implement it.
I’m running a small LAN of 4 wired computers all
with static addressing, computer A is set up as
a server/gateway and hosts the office internet
connection on one NIC, and shares it via a
switch with the second NIC as well as some
services for remote access.
There will soon be a need to add a wireless
connectivity option to the setup, hence the need
to uplink a router to the switch.
Connecting the net connection to the router is
not a viable option as we’ve had issues with the
routing table on past routers filling up and
dropping or rejecting incoming and outgoing
connections.
Is it possible to uplink the wireless router to
the switch, disable the routers DHCP server, use
encryption, either WEP or WPA, and assign an IP
address manually and set up Computer A as the
wireless connections gateway to allow wireless
connections both LAN and WAN access?
