Connecting pc directly to router, router to modem and having access via lap

Hi All,

I have a confusing question.

I have a cable modem connected to a Belkin router. This router shows the connection fine and I am able to wirelessly connect via my laptop, gaming systems, etc.

However, when I connect the same router to a pc via a usb cable….it stops functioning for the laptop. At that point I can connect to the internet on the pc…but not via the laptop.

amy thoughts?
