connecting printer to computer network

I have Win 2k and my husband has win98. We put in a router and got both of us on cable but don’t really know how to set up the HP printer. We had a techie friend do it but shortly after we had to reformat the Win2k computer and lost the print information. We used win2k as the print server through the router. I cannot seem to connect them now even though the win98 still requires him to give a password upon booting up. I still show printer is shared but I know something else must be done to get it working again. Can you help me? I am really not a techie in this area at all.
