My company is looking into opening a small remote office in San Luis Potosi (Mexico)with 8 to 10 people. We are a medium sized manufacturing company here in Toronto with a Unix 2 box, Windows Servers 2003 R2…connecting through Cisco Switches (3560/3550) – Cisco PIX 506E – Cisco Router 1841 – T1 to the world.
Since the majority of data traffic between our site and Mexico, at the start, will be with the UNIX (Basic4) Toronto system, anything greater than DSL service would definitely be overkill (UNIX Telnet). However, they would be accessing Drawings (CAD) from time to time.
The Mexican site has available ADSL/SDSL and E1 $$$ (there is no T1 in Mexico). So I am considering SDSL. VPN tunneling to our Toronto site would be the logical choice for data access.
My question is really – has anyone out there been through this process before and what would you recommend in terms of equipment needed at the Mexico/Toronto end? Routers, PIX, Switches…Servers??
