Connecting To Exchange from VPN

I have setup my Laptop with Win 2000 pro and setup a VPN connection with L2TP and IPSEC. I am able to connect just fine and access my files but I am not able to connect to my Exchange server(which is also my PDC that I can connect to) I even tryedinstead of using the server name I used the servers IP address but no luck. How can I get my VPN computer to resolve names on my private network?
