COPY 1 HARD DISK TO ANOTHER

Tried to back up my 40gb hd to a 80gb hard drive used 2 different well known programs and both had the same fault. Booted up ok through log on and then got 2 windows flashing alternatively one saving and one loading prsonal details, hit escape and log on window comes up, hit return and same problem. This is when the new drive is run by itself. Checked that amount of files were the same on both drives, all ok. ???? (WIN2K PRO) 512mB RAM 1.6GHz AMD
