CPU fan error msg

A homegrown WIN98 PC shut down inadvertantly due to a power outage. When it boots up now, there is a message saying “CPU fan not working” but the fan is running. Otherwise, everything seems to be fine. Does this indicate degraded fan function? if not, any ideas to reset the error flag?
