We have 4 servers (with 1 NIC card each each running Win 2k3), 40 thin clients, and 30 XP machines running through 10/100 switches. We’re looking to implement a SAN and it’s a good excuse to finally start to go to 10/100/1000.
There isn’t a lot of money kicking around, so we’ve got to do it in steps rather than all at once.
My idea as a best first step is to get a 10/100/1000 switch and 4 new NICs for the servers. This put them on their own 1Gbps “switched network”.
Does that make sense? I know I’ll still have a 100mbps bottleneck to the rest of the network, but my thought is the servers and (new) SAN should be passing data at 1000mbps first.
