DAT Tape drive problems

We have a External SCSI 160/320 DAT Tape drive. We were having a problem with it not kicking the tape out so we had an extra tape drive so I replaced it and we are still having this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem or how to get the tape drive out. I have ejected from the server and it says it ejected it but it doesn’t. If you do it on the tape drive the lights just flash and sounds like it is trying but never ejects.
