Data Mining

Hi,
I am a student and am supposed to do a project on Data mining. I am planning to use SQL server 2008 for this and am thinking of using MS Excel to get the histograms and the diagrams.
This is the only idea i have got about data mining.
Please help me out in selecting a topic and going about the project since i have no clue as to what I am supposed to do in it!!!
