DC not showing up in Active Directory.

by djames . Updated 24 years ago

Our company is running in a mixed mode environment. Our PDC has been converted to
2000 and about half of our BDCs have been converted. We had a Server named Fitz02 that was NT 4.0. I dialed into another NT 4.0 machine and deleted Fitz02 and forcedreplication. I then formatted Fitz02 and installed 2000 Server. Once 2000 was installed
I ran dcpromo. Now Fitz02 is not showing up in Active Directory but it is showing up
in the network as a 2000 DC. Fitz02 thinks that it is a DC but it is not taking on the role.
I am getting the following message in event viewer.

(Event 16650

MessageId=0x410A
SymbolicName=SAMMSG_RID_INIT_FAILURE
Language=English
The account-identifier allocator failed to initialize properly. The record data contains the NT error code that caused the failure. Windows 2000 may retry the initialization until it succeeds; until that time, account creation will be denied on this Domain Controller. Please look for other SAM event logs that may indicate the exact reason for the failure.)

I don’t think fitz02 was fully removed before the upgrade. If anyone could tell me the
Steps to correct the problem or how to make sure it is fully removed so I can try to reinstall.
