DCOM error debugging Visual Basic.net

by sue t . Updated 19 years, 4 months ago

I have 12 computers that were imaged with the same image. Some of them will not allow the student who is a Debugger User to debug, we are using Visual Basic.net Standard version 2003. The event viewer shows event ID 10016, Source DCOM, The application specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID, etc.. I clicked the link that was in the box which came back with “The permission settings do not grant permission for the COM Server application with CLSID to the user. This security permission can be modified using the Component services administrative tool. I followed the directions it gave but they are still getting the error message when they try to debug. Since not all computers are having this problem I thought maybe something didn’t set right with the user so I created a new user and assigned them to the Debugger Users group but the problem continues. I do not want to give the students administrator rights and since some work there must be a way to make the others work. the OS is Windows XP sp2, current on all updates, patches, etc as of Jan 27 of this year. Any and all ideas/suggestions will be appreciated and tried. Thank you.
