Degrading network performance …

by lump_16 . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

I have a small home 10/100 network of 5 computers.

Lately when I transfer large files (500 MB+ Movie files) my network performance will slowly degrade then drop the connection.

I viewed the bytes sent in 2k Servers performance graphs. It willplug away at full blast for 5 minutes or so then the perfomance will fall. It’s not a straight line but in 25-30 minutes time the graph will go to a flat line with a few small sputs of data then the network conenction will drop.

There havn’t beenany changes I can think of that I have made to the system. This is happening network wide which makes me doubt it’s a cableing issue and there is nothing near the hub to cause any sort of interference.

Any suggestions? Or perhaps links to good network troubleshooting checklists sites?

Thanks in advance,
