dell inspiron 2650 HDD not recognized

I have a Dell inspiron 2650 that I got as a hand me down for my oldest boy and it had a crashed HDD. I put in a new 80GB along with another 256mb ram in DIMM A and B and the bios is not recognizing HDD. From info I found on this great site earlier, I downloaded a new bios from A4 to A13, did not solve the problem. I then used the Dell Diag CD to detect and it did not. Any suggestions would be great!
