Dell laptop lid coming apart – mechanical problem.

I did not drop or mistreat my Dell Inspiron 6400 silver laptop with a white plastic rim around the lid! Still the white lining came apart from the silver on the right top corner and there is a gap of 1/32″. As a result I cannot close my laptop shut. The lid resists and I am afraid that if I force it to close the lcd screen gets crushed and breaks. Does anyone know how to fix it? Or check what’s wrong with the plastic rim coming apart? There are no screws or anything that can separate the lining. Or does it just snap together? The laptop serves as a desktop now. Please help.
