Designated port vs root port??

Hi all I’m studying for the CCNA and I’m confused on the spanning tree protocol. I think I’ve got *most* of it down, but I’m getting confused on the difference between the root port and the designated port.

Can anyone explain this to me in plain english? or show me a site that does?
