Desk top bug, NT4 Server on a laptop

I recently “picked up” a bug that is a darn nuisance and am looking for advice to rid myself of it. My desk top displays a lot of shortcut icons but they are mostly the same! The title is proper and they work but they all have the work “real” in white on a blue background!! I have tryed deleting shortcut and readding, comes back the same, I have tried simply changing icons to proper one, won’t change, I have tried creating new icons, won’t change?? anyone ???
