Desktop build

by 1ntgr . Updated 7 years, 8 months ago

Hi,

I’m looking for a bit of advice for a desktop build. I’ve not really been keeping up with hardware over the last few years, so I’m keen to get some ideas.

I want to set up a virtualisation/development environment, running 3 / 4 VMs concurrently.

I’d say 32GB is a must (big data, nested VMs etc).

Full virtualisation support on the CPU is required.
NVMe would be nice, but SSD will do. File storage requirements aren’t an issue, I have a NAS. NVMe/SSD would be used for OS/VMs/Apps etc.

I’m not big on gaming, but if a half decent card can be bought within that budget then great. If not, no biggie.

My budget is £1,200 not including OS/Software licenses / monitors.

Lower the better of course, however, looking at 32GB ram, that’d wipe out a quarter of the budget alone quite easily.

I’m open to any ideas.

Thanks in advance.
