desktop internet connection through router

Hi i have a desktop connected to a router through the ethernet cable and a compaq laptop connected to the same router through the wireless.i am able to access the web pages through the laptop and everything is fine .
on the desktop i have an icon sayin that im connected to the internet …but when i try to browse web page on the desktop it is giving me an error saying that i dont have active internet connection …tried changing the browser but to no avail (ie,opera)..please provide any help in this regard
