DFS Single Share?

Is it possible to set up DFS on a Windows server so that there is only one share after the root? I’d like to have:
\\company.com\Marketing
…but it seems I am forced to have:
\\company.com\Shares\Marketing

I don’t see why this wouldn’t work logically since it’s just a pointer. Maybe I don’t understand DFS properly but this extra folder increases confusion to users.
