I have read a lot of posts here about DHCP problems. Still cant find one that fits my issue.
I work for a school ditrict. I have 1 DHCP server in each building. All IP addresses for workstations are reserved to a particular computer via the MAC. We then exclude the entire range to keep people from bringing in computers and attaching to the network. And just in case, we have IP range that hands out 4 or 5 ip’s that are blocked on our firewall to catch the ones who try. Problem is, from time to time we get BAD_ADDRESS errors in DHCP and the IP address can no longer be handed out. We have tried pinging the address thinking someone may have staticly set another computer to the address (it’s happened)but get no reply. there is no other DHCP server in the building. To me, the only way this should be able to happen is if someone manually sets an address.
Any ideas?
